One of the best features of a Rebecca Ray handbag is the quality of workmanship delivered by our friends, neighbors, and partners in the Amish community. Working with these women, and becoming close friends, has improved our lives both personally and professionally. We have learned to appreciate and respect their commitment to family and community. We have also learned of, and shared in, the grief brought on by unique health challenges.
Recognizing the importance of this community to the success of our business, we collectively identified an opportunity for the company to give back to the Amish community through donations to the Ohio Crippled Children's Fund.
The Ohio Crippled Children's Fund was started in 2006 when the Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH) became a backup to Medicaid.
In order to qualify for assistance from BCMH, Amish families would first have to apply for and receive Medicaid benefits.
The Amish have always declined government aid, they decided to start their own fund.
"We believe in taking care of our own people so with this comes a responsibility of creating enough funds to cover any medical expenses that may occur in the near future because of a birth defect or handicap. All proceeds come from donations and a yearly auction."
- Lester Byler, Fund Committee Member
The fund has an annual budget of approximately $2.5 Million.
We encourage others to learn more about the Ohio Crippled Children's Fund and to consider this worthy cause as part of your contributions to others. All donations are tax deductible.
Thank you.
