Holiday Cards.....Call Me Old-Fashioned!

Holiday Cards.....Call Me Old-Fashioned!

Call me old-fashioned, I still send holiday cards.  And I still comb through the mail every day during the holiday season and put the holiday cards on top, with a little jump to my heart to see what everyone has done over the year.  I know I read about it occasionally on Facebook or Instagram, but to me, there is something extremely visceral and tactile about cards.  It’s the gorgeous paper they are printed on; it’s the stunning, unique designs they feature.  The individuality they represent that gives us a brief insight into the soul of our friends and family.

Writing skills, handwriting and written language are all becoming far too elusive in our immediate satisfaction society riddled with phones and computers.  There is something terribly mysterious, old-fashioned and satisfying to drop those cards off at the local post office on a snowy winter day.

Setting the stage for holiday card writing last year with some furry little helpers!

And there are so many ways to feature holiday cards in your seasonal decor, that reminds us on a daily basis that the holiday season is meant to celebrate family and friends both near and far.  I love to use vintage dough bowls or wonderful yellow ware bowls and place cards in those on my coffee table, or a beautiful vintage ribbon in the kitchen, above my farm sink with mini clothes pins holding the cards.  And, then, in an effort to recycle, I typically use the covers of cards as next years gift tags, mixed with natural kraft papers and greenery.  I also collect short pieces of luxe ribbons all year and then weave them into my holiday packages.

 ornament

I just love decorating and adding items like our new Poinsettia Holiday Horse Ornaments around the house on knobs, hanging off a wine bottle as a gift and in fun and unexpected ways. Who says ornaments are just for trees?

At Rebecca Ray, each year, we collect vintage images and inspirations to make whimsical, equestrian inspired exclusive images for our cards that you won’t see anywhere else.  Adding personalization options to many of those cards and ephemera is icing on the cake (or the Yule Log!).  All of our cards, stationary and tea towels are made here in America out of the finest quality paper stocks.  The details including, lined envelopes and vivid colors are stunning.  Below are some of our favorite from this year’s holiday season.
